Though all surgeons treat wounds, there are situations when a plastic surgeon's expertise is required. When a wound is big, jagged, or cannot be covered by the skin at the time, their expertise can help speed healing and prevent scarring. Skin grafts for severe burns, tissue transfer or wounds that seem reluctant to heal at the expected pace may require a plastic surgery
